What to expect

From eye test to collection

Eye examination

We check your vision and the health of your eyes, not just the numbers for a prescription. More about eye examinations.

Lens advice

We explain your options in plain language: single vision, varifocals, reading or computer glasses, and coatings that cut glare and reflections.

Frame fitting

We help you choose frames that suit your face and your prescription, and take the measurements your lenses need.

Collection

We fit your new spectacles and adjust them so they sit comfortably and the lenses line up with your eyes.

Varifocals

Varifocals that work for you

Varifocals let you see far, middle and near distances through one lens. When people struggle with them, the cause is usually the measurements or the frame fit rather than the lens itself.

  • Precise measurementsVarifocals depend on exact measurements of where your eyes sit in the frame, so we take them carefully.
  • Fit checked on collectionWe check how your spectacles sit and adjust them before you leave.
  • A second opinionStruggling with varifocals from elsewhere? Bring them in and we will help you find out why.

Adapting to new varifocals

  • First days

Wear them as much as you can. Turn your head to look sideways rather than moving only your eyes.

  • Stairs

Tip your head down slightly so you look through the distance part of the lens.

  • Reading

Lower your eyes, not your head, to find the reading zone at the bottom of the lens.

  • If unsure

If things still feel wrong after a couple of weeks, come back to us and we will check the fit and measurements.

More ways we help

Spectacles, screens and contact lenses

Repairs and adjustments

Loose screws, bent frames and nose pads that need replacing are part of life with glasses. Pop in and we will adjust or repair them.

Screens and eyestrain

Long hours on screens can leave your eyes tired. The right lenses help, and so do a few simple habits. Read our tips to prevent eyestrain.

Spectacles or contact lenses?

Many of our patients use both: spectacles at home, contact lenses for sport or social occasions. See our contact lenses page.

Common questions

Questions about spectacles

How often should I have my eyes tested?

Most adults should have an eye examination every two years. Children, people with diabetes or a family history of eye disease, and anyone who notices a change in their vision should come in sooner.

Do I need an eye examination before new spectacles?

New spectacles are only as good as the prescription behind them, so we recommend an up-to-date eye examination first. It also checks the health of your eyes, not just your vision.

How long does it take to get used to varifocals?

Most people adapt within a couple of weeks of regular wear. If something still feels wrong after that, come back to us and we will check the fit and measurements.

Can you repair my glasses?

Yes. We adjust frames, tighten loose screws and replace nose pads. Pop in or send us a WhatsApp to check before you visit.
